See that little bee up there? How she’s clinging to that lavender stem like it’s her lifeline? That is precisely how I look when I listen to music. Melodies are my pollen, and I am an overworked bee who needs them to survive.
HELLO PARTY PEOPLE! My name is Youmna El Halabi, and this is Busy Bee’s Playlist, finally LIVE!
From the tender age of 12, I sold my soul to the gods of music and apparently they don’t offer the option for refund. BUT NO MATTER, because by the age of 15, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life: travel the world with a favourite band, and report every single one of their concerts to the world.
I am now 24. Did I get to do that? No, not really. This is real life, Susan, keep up! Billy Joel said it best, “Dream On, but don’t imagine they’ll all come true.” At the very least, I got my Journalism degree. Baby steps, darling.
HOWEVER, I have met amazing artists whose work I had the honour and pleasure to review.
I also was lucky enough to contribute to publications that allowed me to write to my heart’s content about many talented artists.
And finally, after many years of putting it off, I am ready to share my love for music with the world — beyond just posting songs I love on my Instagram story in hopes of you succumbing to curiosity, and taking a listen.
Little background check to get to know me better, and hopefully invite you to follow this blog closely:
– Top three favourite songs *roughly condensed, as there is too much music to choose from*: Vienna by Billy Joel, Layla by Eric Clapton*, and September by Earth, Wind and Fire.
– Personal style is a cross-over between Audrey Hepburn and Joan Jett.
– All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix is a much better version than Bob Dylan’s, do not even try to change my mind.
– Same goes to Santana’s cover of Black Magic Woman. Fleetwood Mac is one of my favourite bands, but Santana takes the cake for best version. (To those who don’t know, Black Magic Woman was originally by Fleetwood Mac – pre-Buckingham-Nicks takeover)
– I have an extremely eclectic taste in music, but Classic Rock are where my loyalties lie.
– INTERESTING FACTOID: my final project for an official exam in my French Baccalaureate was debating the question: Rock Music, ideology or a form of art? And safe to say, I aced that motherfucker.
*Eric Clapton’s music is something I grew up listening to, and Layla is a song that made me fall in love with Rock music. I do not, however, agree with his hateful comments, and anti-mask/vaxx bullshit.
WELCOME TO THE PARTY! Now let’s Buzz.
