Take a deep plunge into a nostalgic 60s psychedelic rock feel.

BAM! The song starts with the crash of cymbals, morphed together with the thrumming bass strings to pave way to the groovy beats of an electric guitar, all bound together by an enticing deep feminine voice.
That is how Old Soul’s first single leaves you wanting more.
Formed in 2017, Old Soul is a Montreal-based rock band drawing inspirations from the psychedelic rock genre of the 1960s and 1970s.

The members, from left to right are:
– Joseph Bottaro on the bass
– Ryan Palfalvi as the band’s drummer
– Peter Rallis is the lead guitarist
– and at the forefront is Old Soul’s vocalist, Loreta Triconi.

Having cultivated quite the sound and following with their live performances throughout the years, in November 2021, they put out their first studio-recorded single, Fall into your Love.
Produced by Rad Castro, the song was recorded in Planet Studios, one of Montreal’s most renowned recording studios. In business for more than 15 years, the studio provides full audio services, with Premier Neve/SSL Recording* and music mixing — from pre-production to recording, mixing and mastering.
(*Technical terms explained:

– Premier Neve: from Neve Electronics, professional audio equipment + mixing consoles. The products use high-quality components and Class-A circuit designs)

The song takes you back in time, in a sea of colours and long flailing hair, bodies moving to the jingle-jangle of the music, back to Woodstock 1969. Triconi’s vocals bear the most striking resemblance to Jefferson Airplane’s vocalist, Grace Slick — albeit not without its own original sound. Inviting, mystical, and filled with sexual magnetism, Fall into your Love‘s vocals are as enticing as its lyrics. A song about reconnecting with an old flame, urging the other to try again, a song about falling into a familiar love to the brink of insanity, never seeing the end.
Don’t be scared now, baby
You’re kept safe inside my heart
Fall into your love again
you’ve my long time love, long time heart
we’ll never be apart, long time friend
we’ll try and try again, feel the air
we’ll never see the end
The music beautifully communicates those feelings of urgency, passion, lust, and longing. Accompanying Triconi’s belts, the notes intensifying at the chorus, and then going into a sort of lull at times when the vocals begin resembling some sort of mystical lament — especially near the end.
What makes psychedelic rock the genre that is are those key elements:
- Sound effects: trippy studio effects like reverb, phasing, distortion, and reversed sound.
- Inventive use of instruments: The sound of electric guitar with feedback and a wah-wah pedal.
- Improvisation: Lengthy improvised guitar solos.
- Abstract lyrics: often include surreal and abstract lyrics that may allude to hallucinogenic drug use.
Most of those elements can be found in Old Soul’s sound, as the music invites you on a trippy ride provided by Rallis’ lengthy solos, Bottaro’s bass paving the way to a sick beat, and Palfalvi’s cymbals echoing throughout the song.
With the return of live performances in Montreal’s nightlife, here’s hoping to hear this song live pretty soon.
Stay tuned for the lyric video, and their debut album!
Meanwhile, you can keep up with the band and show your support by following them on their socials (and streaming the song)
