A Christmas Cheer!

At Busybee’s Playlist, it’s Merry fuckin’ whatever, but we’re also very festive

It’s Mariah Carey’s world right now, and we’re just living in it. She has begun defrosting in early November, so she can be in full swing come December.

Who cares that it is technically a religious event initially meant to celebrate the birth of an important religious figure? Or the fact that Yule has been celebrated for centuries as a pagan holiday?

It’s Candycane and Santa Land, all part of Mariah Carey’s Kingdom.

Lest we forget, however, that Jack Skellington is also quite happy about it.

All cynicism aside, I’m actually quite a fan of this time of year — provided I am not asked about my relationship status again. I feel warmth whenever I spy the fairy lights, and have no shame jumping around to “All I want for Christmas is You.”

In addition to the wonderful English songs we already have in our arsenal, from Nat King Cole, to Eartha Kitt, I also grew up with Arabic and French Christmas songs — making the holidays as festive as can be.

And so, without further ado, I have created a playlist encompassing my favourite Christmas songs that put me in the mood, without eventually wanting to bash my head in by the end of it. (SHOCKER, HUH?)

Disclaimer to Michael Bublé admirers, he ain’t there and he ain’t welcome. I’m not a fan.

BONUS TRACK: unfortunately this song isn’t on any streaming app, but if you are a Grey’s Anatomy fan, you know where this song is played and how beautiful this version is. Fingers crossed that it gets added on Spotify some time soon, because it is meant to heard.

It Came Upon a Midnight Clear by Sixpence None the Richer (you might know them from their famous songs such Kiss Me and There She Goes)
