A Rock music infused night with: Old Soul, Proximity to Temptation, and Squeeze Mason.

Live music is back in Montreal! And no better way to get back to its groove than by supporting local talents.
Here’s a brief, but substantial rundown of all three bands performing tonight, 19 March, at The Blue Dog Motel, on 3958 St. Laurent Blvd.

Formed in 2017, Old Soul is renowned for their live sound, covering songs mostly centering around 1960s/1970s psychedelic rock.
Their debut single, Fall into Your Love was released in November 2021; produced by Rad Castro, and recorded in Planet Studios. (https://busybeesplaylist.ca/2021/12/13/fall-into-your-love-with-that-old-soul-band/)
PROXIMITY TO TEMPTATION

Formed in spring 2021, Proximity to Temptation is a Montreal-based band incorporating funky beats, multi-part vocal harmonies, while touching on elements of Rock, Funk, R’n’B, & progressive Rock (also known as classical Rock or symphonic Rock; sometimes conflated with art rock — a broad genre of Rock music developed in the UK and US throughout the mid-to late 1960s.)
The band consists of Chris Patterson on vocals and guitar; Kane Lee on the bass, Daniel Benabou on drums, Andrew McCafferty on guitar as well and Daniel Luo plays the keyboards. Proximity to Temptation, however, is not the bandmates’ first rodeo, in terms of being part of a musical act.
Lee was part of a group called Mars on Water and Patterson was in Arcaydium. Benabou also played drums in both bands. The chemistry between the three was palpable when they would get together, and organize jamming sessions.
When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the entire world into lockdown, Arcaydium and Mars on Water parted ways.
Spring 2021 was when a new project came into fruition, when Lee, Patterson and a mutual friend of theirs moved out together, and the pair began writing music together. Lee and Patterson then reached out to Daniel Benabou to join them on the drums & percussion, and thus Proximity to Temptation was born.
In the summer of the same year, McCafferty (Guitar) and Luo (Keyboards) joined the band, and the initial threesome became a group of five.
Vocalist Patterson’s main priority is his band, but he also has a solo project called Free Real Estate.
“The band is definitely my main priority,” he says. “I look at my solo stuff as my opportunity to collaborate with Montreal artists and my band stuff as my main vessel for song writing & jamming.”
Patterson has a song with another band playing tonight: Squeeze Mason.
SQUEEZE MASON

Formed in 2019, Squeeze Mason is a Montreal-based band drawing on Rock music, as well as jazz, funk, and metal. Their music is a unique blend, incorporating 1980s synthetic sound, and syncopated groove.*
(TECHNICAL TERM EXPLAINED:
Syncopated groove: occurs when a rhythmic pattern that typically occurs on strong beats or strong parts of the beat, happens instead on weak beats or weak parts of the beat. It is a musical term meaning a variety of rhythms played together to make a piece of music, making part or all of a tune or piece of music off-beat.)
The band is mainly made-up of three members: twins Gary and Ted Schulze, hailing from Whitehorse, Yukon, and Dexter Dippong. Gary is the multi-instrumentalist, Ted is on the Keyboard, and Dippong is on the bass — he is also a producer. They’ve also recently welcomed their new guitarist, Adam.

Together, they have put out a number of songs, EPs, and tracks, with their most recent titled Fishing for the Blues, that came out in February 2022. The song features vocalist liv. — a multi-dimensional vocalist, who has joined Squeeze Mason on more than one occasion in the recording studio.
Here’s the rundown of what you need to know about tonight’s talents! Come and support your local talents, and make sure to be ready for a rocking night!
